11 Times Celebrities Totally Transformed Their Look for Their Music Videos

Artists usually use their music videos to show off impressive clothes and eye-catching dance performances. But some artists take it further with full transformations that make them totally  unrecognizable.

Here is a list of 17 times celebrities have entirely transformed their appearance just for their  music videos. 

11. Katy Perry transformed into a lot of different characters for the “Birthday” video.

It may not be strange to see Katy Perry transform her look for music videos, but her “Birthday” transformation was over any expectations.

The idea of the video was that the she impersonated five real-life birthday parties. The participants were: Goldie, an old dancer; Yosef Shulem, a Jewish MC; Kriss, a clown; Ace, an animal trainer; and Princess Mandee, a face-painter. She changed her look with different costumes, wigs, and artificial wrinkles.

10. Tones and I transformed into a old man for the “Dance Monkey” video.

In the “Dance Monkey,” Australian singer does look so different that it’s very facile to believe it’s not her on this video.

The video is about “Mr. Tones,” an old man who joins a dance party. Tones’ look is so convincing wearing a gray wig, beard, sunglasses, a hat and golf outfit. The video was conceived by Tones and she was able to wear her grandpa’s costume only once.

“We kept shooting and shooting,” she told.”We staggered people’s breaks, that way we weren’t all taking a break at the same time.”

9. Lady Gaga transformed into her male alter ego for “You and I”.

When it comes to Lady Gaga is no stranger to perform style transformations, but especially this look made her unrecognizable. It was her male alter ego, Jo Calderone.

With the actor and model Taylor Kinney, Gaga stars in the video as Calderone and Yüyi which is a mermaid. While dressed as Calderone, Gaga looks totally different; she wore a short black wig, a white T-shirt, and put on some dark makeup focused more around her eyes.

She spoke about the video, saying, “For me, it was all about capturing the true spirit of the song, which is when you’re in love, you’ll be willing to walk and do the craziest and most inconvenient things you can possibly imagine.”

8. Swift got the zombie appearance in “Look What You Made Me Do.”

 Being a video about zombie transformation it shows Taylor sitting in a chair some makeup artists cover her in prosthetics, some fizz, and fake nails.

Swift told, “You know what’s weird? When you look this gross, you just have no physical insecurities.”

The makeover lined up with the song’s message. It is about her saying goodbye to the old self and beginning a new life.

7. Billie Eilish got a different look for the “Xanny”.

In the eyes of the public, Billie Eilish is known for her grungy style with neon colored hair and loose-fitting outfits. This is why the “Xanny” video surprised her fans.

In the video, Eilish is in an all-white room wearing a simple turtleneck and neutral brown hair, looking so natural. She sings directly to the camera, without moving. She wrote on a statement, “Visuals are so important to me, and I’m very proud to be in a place where I can present my creative vision exactly as I want it.”

6. Aminé changed his skin color  in his “Red Mercedes” video.

In the video of “Red Mercedes,” rapper Aminé was shown as a white customer with his friends.

They start interacting with the store’s Black staff and the video shows racial discrimination, violence and unequal treatment.Aminé’s makeup took hours and the video was meant to give an important message.

The rapper said the video irritated a lot of people but at the same time made others happy.

“It’s funny when I see people get mad. It’s a music video. It’s my art. So, I’ll do whatever I want” said Aminé

5. Drake impersonated different popular characters in his video “Energy.”

Drake made several transformations in his “Energy” video, impersonating celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Miley Cyrus, Barack Obama, and Justin Bieber etc while playing himself at the same time.

He said he was inspired by Michael Jackson’s “Black or White” video for his new hit.

I want people to rewind it a bunch of times and go and tell someone else to watch it. It’s shocking, it’s beautiful, it’s a lot of things” he said.

Wearing a pencil-skirt and a long black braided wig, Zayn Malik created”a sexy secretary” look.

His makeup artist Veronica had to cover his tattoo.

“I don’t think I’ve drawn the short straw,” he said about his character, who later flirts with mate Harry Styles.

In the end, the video goes down into chaos as the band members destroy the office and start dancing on tables.

3. Katy Perry also turned into Marie Antoinette in the “Hey Hey Hey” video.

Katy Perry’s “Hey Hey Hey,” song is one of the singles of the album “Witness,”. In this video she is supposed to be feminine and delicate, but at the same time secure and independent.

The video stars Perry dressed as Marie Antoinette, the last queen of France, lazing in her castle. With the white pale skin, she has thin eyebrows, a heart-shaped lipstick, and also a platinum huge queen like wig.

At the end of the video, she impersonates Joan of Arc.

The “Famous” video is set in a tech world where beauty turns around screens. When the batteries are over, people are faced with the ugly truth.

At the video Charli is seen on a screen singing and dancing. But at the end, she appears as a frightening zombie, trying to convince people buying her album. You surely wouldn’t recognize Charli with wild hair and big scars around her face.

Behind-the-scenes, Charli joked, “When I inevitably have my breakdown, this is how I’m probably going to look, so we thought we would make it fit in 2015.”
