Officially, “Tomb Raider 2” won’t happen!
As Lara Croft, Alicia Vikander won’t be appearing again.
The sequel that was going to be directed by Misha Green; and starring the Oscar-winning actress, Tomb Raider, is no longer in the works.
A bidding war has started for a new studio to secure the rights to the Tomb Raider franchise; after MGM lost the project’s rights.
According to TheWrap, MGM had until May 2022 to approve a Tomb Raider sequel; or the studio would forfeit the rights. Other studios are now competing for the rights after the studio allowed the window to lapse.
“According to insiders, there are no casting or directing commitments, and it is a complete reboot. The rights returned to the game developer; who then agreed to represent the intellectual property with Graham King’s GK Films “reported the outlet.
The 2001 and 2003 original movies, which starred Angelina Jolie, brought in $432 million worldwide. The 2018 Alicia reboot brought in $275 million globally.
